Can I protect myself against Human Papilloma Virus?

HPV or Human Papilloma Virus is a contagious disease which can spread from one person to another person in a very easy manner. Due to the spread of HPV, an individual can suffer from cervical cancer, genital warts and many other problems related to the health. In most of the cases the problem of HPV occurs due to sexual contact. One can be affected by HPV even without having sexual intercourse as it can spread easily due to skin to skin contact.

The ways to protect yourself against Human Papilloma Virus

The only way to protect yourself against Human Papilloma Virus is to go for safe sex. Going for safe sex does not mean that an individual should not go for sex at all in his life or should restrict himself from having sex for around twenty years or so. Safe sex only implies that an individual should have sex but taking into account certain protective measures.

First of all, it is very important for an individual to use condom while having sex with the partner each time. It is true that the use of condoms may not help in protecting against HPV, as the entire skin cannot be covered with condom. However condoms help in providing protection against other harmful diseases such as HIV, Chlamydia and gonorrhea. Use of condoms can also restrict the chances of becoming pregnant.

Secondly, it is advised that one should not have sex with multiple partners. The chances of spread of HPV are more in case an individual has sex with multiple partners.

Never do sex forcefully. Only get involved in a sexual activity, if you are comfortable and willing to have it.

Conclusion

It is very important for an individual to take these preventive measures with respect to transmission of Human Papilloma Virus. It is impossible to judge whether the person is affected by HPV or not by just having a look at him. There are no kinds of visible symptoms of Human Papilloma Virus. There may also be cases, when an individual might not be aware of the fact that he is suffering from HPV. Earlier sexual activity may also have resulted into the transmission of Human Papilloma Virus. Therefore, one should be very careful and inhibit himself to only one partner for having sex and make use of condoms every time while having sex to reduce the risk of spreading of Human Papilloma Virus.
